Why Give?

The Kashmir conflict is one of the most enduring—and most misrepresented—military occupations in the world. For 75 years, the Muslim-majority Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir has been governed by India, with the last decade marked by heightened militarization, mass surveillance, and the rise of a Hindu nationalist state under the ruling BJP. Yet the global media continues to frame the issue narrowly, reducing it to a geopolitical border dispute between India and Pakistan, largely omitting the central demand of Kashmiri people themselves: the right to self-determination.

This erasure has real stakes. When Kashmiris resist occupation—whether through art, protest, or armed struggle—the Indian state frames them as terrorists. And when Indian journalists, activists, or artists challenge this narrative, they are prosecuted, jailed without trial, or publicly vilified. Under these conditions of state censorship and state violence, Kashmiris have little space to tell their own stories. This is where our film becomes urgent: an act of witness, remembrance, and resistance.
